Climb the vertical learning curve of growing a startup.

Founding a company is a crazy almost impossible task. Trying to do it without help is insane. I created Feel the Boot to be your guide through the rough startup terrain.

Feel the Boot grew out of my experiences as a founder, angel investor, and advisor. I share my knowledge and experience through articles and videos on topics spanning all the issues founders encounter as their companies grow.

Let me walk beside you on this arduous journey. Feel the Boot can make the load lighter and the destination brighter.

Lance Cottrell

I am an entrepreneur, investor, advisor, and mentor. Many of those I help call me “The Boot” because I am constantly providing a gentile kick in the ass to achieve more.

In the process, I have learned a tremendous amount about starting companies, raising capital, and angel investing.

My approach is strongly influenced by my background in physics. I tend to look at problems from a scientific perspective and strive to fully understand all the mechanisms involved.

Thus “Feel the Boot: The Science of Startups”

I left graduate studies in Astrophysics at UCSD to start Anonymizer.com in 1995. After a successful exit in 2008, I became involved in advising, mentoring, and investing in other early stage companies.

Now, in addition Feel the Boot, I am on the board of the North Bay Angels, and a Global Entrepreneur in Residence with Founder Institute.

Now it is time to start giving back. That is why I created Feel The Boot, to provide some of the guidance and advice I wish I had back in the early days.
